Remote Saturdays | A trick learned from Covid-19
We reopened our workplace in early August and it turned out that our teams worked at a faster pace when at home. This was unbelievably surprising. Our lead engineer Osama Asif was so impressed with this fact that he proposed ‘remote working saturdays’ policy in our recent meeting. He said, “I felt so much at ease to see my team perform seamlessly in hard times like these. They are so in tune with the remote working practice that I feel we should let them have a remote working saturday every week.”
We’ve run a trial test of this practice for almost 4 weeks till now and we are assessing the productivity of our teams in this new arrangement. So far, the development team appears to be fine tuned with this practice as we have noticed better success rates of sprint completion. Project Manager Husnain Raza shared his thoughts with us and said, “Friday is like the last day of the week. My teams try to complete their deliverables accordingly. In case something gets delayed we always have a cushion of a remote Saturday.”
Abou Bakar, a MERN Stack Develop, mentioned that he uses his Saturdays to do long forgotten minor tasks which gradually pile up on his task manager over the week and this has made him more productive.
